Avast Mobile Security for iOS - Getting Started

Avast Mobile Security for iOS is an app designed to protect your privacy online, securely store your photos, scan Wi-Fi networks for vulnerabilities, avoid annoying spam calls, and alert you if your email password is found leaked online.

Refer to the sections in this article for instructions on using Avast Mobile Security for iOS.

Navigate the Avast Mobile Security interface

Tap the Avast Mobile Security icon on the home screen of your device to open the app. The main screen comprises the Wi-Fi Scan section and four tiles representing the other app features. Each option includes different information or actions that you can perform:

  • Wi-Fi Scan: scans the Wi-Fi network you are connected to and informs you of any detected security risks.
  • Secure Browsing: uses a VPN to protect your privacy while you are browsing online.
  • Call Blocker: screens your calls to identify telemarketing, spam, and other unwanted calls.
  • Email Guardian: checks if your email password has been leaked and can be found online.
  • Photo Vault: enables you to protect your photos by locking them in an encrypted vault.

The home screen of the app also displays the settings icon in the top-right corner, which gives you access to additional information about the app and the ability to adjust some of the app feature settings.

Scan your Wi-Fi network for security threats

Avast Mobile Security enables you to scan a Wi-Fi network for problems with the router, encryption, Wi-Fi, and connection. After installation, Wi-Fi Scan runs once automatically. For any rescans, your device needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

  1. Tap the grey Rescan button.
  2. When the scan is complete, Wi-Fi Scan reports any issues found and prompts you to resolve them. Tap X issue found to view the issue details.

If no issues are found, the Wi-Fi image is displayed in green.

Activate Secure Browsing

Secure Browsing uses Avast's VPN (Virtual Private Network) infrastructure to create a secured VPN connection. This protects the data you upload and download from the internet, secures data sent from your device, and anonymizes your internet activity.

Secure Browsing is a feature available in the paid Pro version of Avast Mobile Security for iOS.

The first time you activate Secure Browsing, the app will prompt you to install a VPN profile:

  1. Tap Secure BrowsingActivate Secure Browsing.
  2. Tap AcceptInstall ProfileAllow.
  3. Now that the VPN profile is installed, you can connect to the VPN by tapping Secure Browsing on the home screen of the app, so the text changes from grey OFF to green ACTIVE. Secure Browsing will automatically connect to the optimal VPN location to protect your privacy.

To disable Secure Browsing, simply tap the tile again so the text changes from green ACTIVE to grey OFF.

If you also have Avast Mobile SecureLine VPN for iOS installed on your device, you may experience a conflict between the Secure Browsing feature on Avast Mobile Security and Avast SecureLine VPN. The VPN connection will only work on the app which installed the VPN profile last.

Block unwanted calls

With Call Blocker, you can filter voice calls through our advanced call-screening technology that automatically identifies telemarketing, spam, and other unwanted calls. You can also manually add numbers to your personal blocklist. Each time you receive a phone call, the number is checked against a database of known spam callers. If the number appears on either the Avast database or your personal blocklist, Call Blocker alerts you or automatically redirects the call to voice mail according to your settings.

Call Blocker is automatically activated when you update to the paid Pro version of Avast Mobile Security.

To set Call Blocker to automatically redirect calls to voicemail:

  1. Tap the Settings icon on the home screen of the app.
  2. Tap the slider next to Warn me against SPAM calls so that it changes to OFF.
  3. Tap the slider next to Warn me against numbers blocked by me so that it changes to OFF.

Calls that are blocked by Call Blocker are visible under Call BlockerView Blocked Numbers.
