Installation and activation

How do I install Avast Cleanup Premium?

Follow these steps to install Avast Cleanup Premium from the Avast website:

  1. Ensure no other application or antivirus software is running on your Mac.
  2. Click the button below to download the Avast Cleanup Premium setup file, and save it to a familiar location on your Mac (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder).

  3. Double-click the downloaded setup file avastcleanup.dmg
  4. Follow the on-screen setup instructions.
  5. If prompted, use your Touch ID to grant permission for the installation, or click Use Password..., then enter your Administrator password and click Install Software.
  6. Wait while setup installs Avast Cleanup Premium on your Mac, then click Close.
  7. Click Move to Trash to remove the installer.

Avast Cleanup Premium is now installed on your Mac and can be used in scan-only mode. To unlock all features, either activate an existing subscription or click Buy Cleanup Premium, then follow the on-screen instructions to purchase a subscription for Avast Cleanup Premium.

How do I activate Avast Cleanup Premium?

Avast Cleanup Premium is automatically activated when you purchase a subscription from within the application. If you purchased a subscription before installing the product, then you need to manually activate your subscription using a valid activation code.

To manually activate Avast Cleanup Premium, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Avast Cleanup Premium icon in the menu bar, then select Open Avast Cleanup Premium.
  2. Click Insert Activation Code.
  3. Type or paste your activation code (including hyphens) into the text box, then click OK.

Your Avast Cleanup Premium subscription is activated.

After installing Avast Cleanup Premium, click Buy Cleanup Premium to purchase and activate a subscription.

What is Clean Clutter?

Clean clutter scans several areas of your hard drive and detects unnecessary files that can be removed to create more disk space on your Mac.

To perform a scan, click Scan under Clean clutter on the main Avast Cleanup Premium screen. After the scan completes, you can review the amount of space taken up by unnecessary files and choose to remove them from your Mac.

What is Find Duplicates?

Find duplicates detects multiple files which contain identical content.

To perform a scan, click Find under Find duplicates on the main Avast Cleanup Premium screen. After the scan completes, you can review the detected duplicate files and select the files you want to remove from your Mac.

What is Find Photos?

Find photos detects photos that are blurry, badly-lit, or similar.

To perform a scan, click Find under Find photos on the main Avast Cleanup Premium screen. You can specify where Avast Cleanup Premium should look for photos, and then after the scan completes, review and select which photos you want to delete.

What is Uninstall apps?

Uninstall apps allows you to easily find and remove applications from your Mac that you no longer use.

To uninstall apps you no longer use, click Show under Uninstall apps on the main Avast Cleanup Premium screen. Review the list of applications installed on your Mac and select which applications you want to delete.

What is Alert Me?

Alert Me is a notification feature that prompts you to scan your Mac when a specified amount of clutter is detected. Alert Me is enabled by default.

To disable this feature:

  1. Ensure the Avast Cleanup Premium window is open and active.
  2. Click AvastCleanup on the left side of the menu bar, then select Preferences....
  3. Select the Alerts tab.
  4. Untick the box next to Enable AlertMe!.

Troubleshooting

Why doesn't Avast Cleanup Premium clean anything from my system?

Avast Cleanup Premium requires a paid subscription to use. If you installed Avast Cleanup Premium but have not purchased or activated a subscription, the application runs in scan-only mode and cannot clean anything.

Why do I need to grant permissions to Avast Cleanup Premium?

If Avast Cleanup Premium detects clutter in your system folders, you are asked to enter your system user name and password to authorize the cleaning process. This stops unauthorized users clearing items from your system folders.

Why do I need to close open applications before Avast Cleanup Premium continues cleaning?

When you perform a Clean clutter scan, Avast Cleanup Premium detects unnecessary files, including those stored in your browsers and applications. If the applications containing these files are running when you click Clean, Avast Cleanup Premium asks you to close the applications to prevent them from crashing or malfunctioning.

How do I change my privacy settings?

To change your personal privacy settings, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the Avast Cleanup Premium window is open and active.
  2. Click AvastCleanup on the left side of the menu bar, and select Preferences....
  3. Select the Privacy tab.
  4. To stop sharing your app-usage data, untick the boxes next to the privacy settings according to your preferences.

How do I send feedback about Avast Cleanup Premium?

To send feedback about Avast Cleanup Premium, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the Avast Cleanup Premium window is open and active.
  2. Click Help on the left side of the menu bar, and select Send Feedback.
  3. Enter the relevant information into the text boxes, then click Send.

How do I uninstall Avast Cleanup Premium?

To uninstall Avast Cleanup Premium, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Avast Cleanup Premium icon in the menu bar, then select Open Avast Cleanup Premium.
  2. Ensure the Avast Cleanup Premium window is open and active.
  3. Click AvastCleanup on the left side of the menu bar, and select Uninstall Avast Cleanup Premium.
  4. In the Avast Cleanup Premium Uninstaller dialog, click Continue.
  5. If prompted, use your Touch ID or enter your administrator User Name and Password, then click OK.
  6. When the uninstallation is complete, click Finish.

Avast Cleanup Premium is now uninstalled from your Mac.
