Discontinued support for Avast Antivirus version 19.1 and higher on Windows XP and Windows Vista - FAQs

As of January 2019, Avast no longer provides patches or technical support for versions Avast Antivirus 19.1 and higher installed on the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic / Home Premium / Business / Enterprise / Ultimate - Service Pack 2, 32 / 64-bit
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home / Professional / Media Center Edition - Service Pack 3, 32-bit

Please update your operating system to Windows 7 or newer to benefit from enhanced features and higher detection rates in Avast Antivirus version 19.1 and higher.

Which versions are no longer supported?

Support is discontinued for versions 19.1 and higher of the following products: Avast Premium Security, Avast Free Antivirus, Avast Pro Antivirus, Avast Internet Security, and Avast Premier that are running on Windows XP or Windows Vista. These versions are supported on PCs running Windows 7 or newer.

Which versions are still supported on XP and Vista?

Versions 18.8 and lower of the following products: Avast Free Antivirus, Avast Pro Antivirus, Avast Internet Security, and Avast Premier are still supported on Windows XP and Windows Vista.

People using older versions of Avast Antivirus on Windows XP or Windows Vista will continue to receive virus definition updates and be protected. How can I update the program version?

If you are using an older version of Avast Antivirus, and want to update to the latest version, you first need to update your Windows XP or Windows Vista operating system to Windows 7 or newer. To update to the latest Avast Antivirus program version on Windows 7 or newer:

  1. Right-click the Avast system tray icon on your Windows taskbar.
  2. Select Update from the menu and then click Program.
