New Avast One - FAQs

This article is about the new version of Avast One, available from 16 September 2025. For information about the old Avast One, refer to the following article: Avast One - FAQs.

General

What is Avast One?

Avast One is an all-in-one digital guardian that allows you to access and manage multiple Avast applications. It is designed to simplify your experience by consolidating various security, privacy, and performance tools into one customizable platform.

Through Avast One, you can:

  • Install and launch your Avast apps from one place.
  • Customize your app lineup based on your personal needs and available subscriptions.
  • Access both free and premium features, depending on the app and subscription status.

What is the difference between the old and the new Avast One?

The previous version of Avast One offered a fixed set of features by combining selected tools from various Avast applications into a single package. It was designed to provide general protection and included a predefined selection of security, privacy, and performance tools.

The new version of Avast One introduces a more flexible and modular approach. Instead of bundling tools together, it acts as a central interface where you can:

  • Choose which individual Avast apps to install and use.
  • Purchase, activate, and manage Avast apps directly within the same application.
  • Customize your setup based on personal needs and subscription preferences.

For more information about the old version of Avast One, refer to the following article: Avast One - FAQs.

Can I continue using the old Avast One?

Yes. You can continue using the old version of Avast One, but there are a few scenarios to take into account:

  • Existing users: Both free and paid users of the old Avast One can continue using the app as long as it remains installed on their device.
  • New installations: Any new installation of Avast One will install the new version of the app. The new version provides access to individual Avast apps through a unified interface.

If you wish to install and activate the paid version of the old Avast One on a new device, refer to the steps in the following article: Installing Avast One ▸ Installing the old version of Avast One.

New installations of the free version of the old Avast One are no longer available.

Can I use my old Avast One subscription in the new app?

No. You can continue using the old app if you have a paid subscription, but the old subscription is not compatible with the new Avast One. If you wish to transfer to the new Avast One, contact Avast Support.

Is Avast One a free or a paid app?

Avast One includes both free and paid features. By default, the free version provides access to Avast Free Antivirus and its associated features. You can also install and use the free version of Avast Cleanup, Avast BreachGuard, and Avast Secure Browser. To access premium features, you need individual subscriptions for each app.

For a list of all free and paid apps that can be used in Avast One, refer to the section below.

The following apps are not integrated into Avast One but can be installed from it as standalone applications:

Settings

What is Passive Mode?

Passive Mode disables all active protection, such as Shields and Firewall, so that you can use more than one antivirus program at a time without interfering with the performance of your Windows device or the reliability of antivirus detections. In Passive Mode, Avast One receives all virus definition and program updates, which allow you to manually run scans to check for issues on your Windows device, however, Avast does not actively protect you.

If you want Avast to actively protect you from malware and other security threats, ensure that Passive Mode is not turned on and the following conditions are met:
  • All third-party antivirus programs are uninstalled.
  • The main screen of Avast indicates This computer is protected.

Can I exclude files, folders, or websites from being scanned?

Yes. You can exclude specific files, folders, or websites from being scanned by all Avast shields and scans. To set an exclusion:

  1. Hover your mouse over the side menu, and select Settings.
  2. In the General tab, click Open.
  3. Select Exceptions ▸ Add exception.
  4. Type a file path, folder path, or URL, then click Add exception. Alternatively, click Browse, then select a file or folder path, and click OK.

Your specified file, folder, or website is now listed on the Exceptions screen. To remove an exception, hover your mouse over the listed exception, then click the trash can icon that appears on the right.

How can I check if Avast One is up to date?

Avast uses a database of known virus definitions to identify malware and other threats on your Windows device, so it is important to ensure virus definitions are regularly updated. By default, Avast automatically updates both the virus definitions and itself. However, Avast cannot perform the update if you are offline.

To manually check for available updates:

  1. Hover your mouse over the side menu, and select Settings.
  2. In the General tab, click Open.
  3. Select Update.
  4. Click Check for updates to update either virus definitions or Avast One.

How can I control which data I share with Avast?

To change your personal privacy settings:

  1. Hover your mouse over the side menu, and select Settings.
  2. In the General tab, click Open.
  3. Select Personal Privacy.
  4. Tick or untick the boxes next to the privacy settings according to your preferences.

How can I manage Avast notifications and offers?

To manage Avast One pop-up notifications and offers:

  1. Hover your mouse over the side menu, and select Settings.
  2. In the General tab, click Open.
