Managing your expired Avast Antivirus license

When your Avast Antivirus displays the text Your license has expired, you can either purchase a new license to continue using your paid Avast Antivirus or manually switch back to Avast Free Antivirus.

Renew your license

  1. Click Reactivate below the expiration warning.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to select, purchase, and activate your new license directly in Avast Antivirus.

Switch back to Avast Free Antivirus

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Apps and Features from the menu that appears.
  2. Ensure that Apps & Features is selected in the left panel, then click your version of Avast Antivirus, and select Modify.
  3. Press the Win key and X key simultaneously, then select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  4. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  6. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or click Programs and Features if you are using the large/small icons view.
  7. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  8. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select SettingsControl Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  9. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or double-click Programs and Features if you are using the classic view.
  10. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  11. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select SettingsControl Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  12. Click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the category view, ...or double-click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the classic view.
  13. Select your version of Avast Antivirus by clicking it once, then click Change in the bottom-right corner of the highlighted selection.
  14. If prompted by the User Account Control dialog for permissions, click YesContinue.
  15. When the Avast Setup wizard appears, click Switch back to Avast Free Antivirus.
  16. Wait while setup updates Avast Antivirus on your PC.
  17. When the update is complete, click Restart computer to reboot your PC immediately, or click Restart later if you want to manually reboot your PC at a later time.
