Uninstalling Avast Free Antivirus

This article contains instructions to uninstall Avast Free Antivirus using the Avast Setup wizard.

Using the Avast Setup wizard is the regular method for removing Avast Free Antivirus from your PC. If you experience uninstallation issues, we recommend using the Avast Uninstall Utility to remove all Avast Free Antivirus files. For detailed instructions, refer to the following article:
  1. Ensure no other application or antivirus software is running on your PC.
  2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Apps and Features from the menu that appears.
  3. Ensure that Apps & features is selected in the left panel, then click Avast Free Antivirus, and select Uninstall.
  4. On your keyboard, press the Win key and X key simultaneously, then select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  5. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  6. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view... ...or click Programs and Features if you are using the large/small icons view.
  7. Right-click Avast Free Antivirus, then select Uninstall from the drop-down menu.
  8. If prompted for permissions by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
  9. When the Avast Setup wizard appears, click Uninstall.
  10. Click Yes to confirm uninstallation of Avast Free Antivirus.
  11. Wait while setup removes Avast Free Antivirus from your PC.
  12. When the confirmation dialog appears, click Restart computer to complete uninstallation.

Avast Free Antivirus is now uninstalled from your PC.
