For Avast Driver Updater:

  • Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Core Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 SP1 or higher, any Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows Vista SP2 or higher, except Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows XP SP3, any Edition (32-bit)
  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE2 instructions)
  • 256 MB RAM or above
  • 400 MB free space on the hard disk
  • Internet connection to download, activate, and maintain updates of the program.
  • Optimally standard screen resolution not less than 1024 x 600 pixels is recommended.
Avast Driver Updater is not supported (is not compatible, cannot be installed, and will not run) on DOS, Microsoft Windows editions earlier than XP, Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, or any others not specified as supported.

What features does Avast Driver Updater have?

Avast Driver Updater offers the following features:

  • Scans your PC to detect outdated drivers
  • Allows you to update all drivers with one click
  • Creates a backup of drivers for use in emergency situations

What is the Home section?

The Home section displays the System Summary and allows you to start scanning for outdated drivers. Click Start scan to run Avast Driver Updater Scanner.

What is the Scan section?

In the Scan section, you can check scanning progress. To stop a scan click Stop scan.

What is the Results section?

The Results section displays scan results and enables you to update your drivers by performing one of the following actions:

  • Click Download next to the outdated software or hardware, then manually install the drivers.
  • Click Update selected drivers to download and install drivers automatically for all elements ticked on the list.

What is the Options section?

The Options section includes additional, customizable settings for Avast Driver Updater. Options are divided into the following sections:

  • General: specify which elements should be selected to update after scanning. Check for Avast Driver Updater updates and logs and decide if Avast Driver Updater runs at windows startup.
  • Backup: set a default location for saving driver backups.
  • Restore: specify which location backups are automatically restored from and specify if your PC should be rebooted after restoring a backup.
  • Update: set a connection retry timeout and connection retry count, and specify if your PC should be rebooted after installing drivers.
  • Schedule: set a schedule to regularly scan for outdated drivers.

What is the Restore section?

In the Restore section, you can restore previously installed drivers. To restore drivers that were saved in the default system location, tick the box next to a device and click Restore. You can set a default location in OptionsRestore. If you saved your backup in a different location, click Restore from... and locate your backup. Alternatively, you can use the Windows System Restore option to restore the previous state of your system.

What is the Backup section?

In the Backup section, you can make a backup copy of your installed drivers. To create a backup in the default system location, tick the box next to a device and click Backup. You can set a default location in OptionsBackup. If you want to save a backup in a different location, click Backup to... and select your preferred location.

What is the Support section?

The Support section enables you to access online help for Avast Driver Updater. You can also register your Avast Driver Updater license and check for program updates.

General and Troubleshooting

Why should I update my drivers?

Drivers are used by manufacturers to fix issues related to hardware devices and ensure the best compatibility with the operating systems. Without the latest drivers, your hardware devices may encounter stability problems and stop working properly. An outdated driver can also create security vulnerabilities and enable hackers to infect or access your system and personal data.

What devices does Avast Driver Updater scan?

Avast Driver Updater scans hardware devices that need drivers to work properly on your operating system. Such devices can include printers, scanners, digital cameras, network and video adapters, as well as sounds and graphics cards.

Is using Avast Driver Updater safe for my PC and my data?

During an update, Avast Driver Updater downloads official and safe manufacturer's driver installers. Additionally, before installing new drivers, Avast Driver Updater performs the following steps:

  • Backs up all drivers which can be accessed in the Restore section.
  • Creates the Windows system restore point.

The above steps enable you to restore previously installed drivers or use the Windows system restore point to return to the previous state of your system.

Is Avast Driver Updater free of charge?

Avast Driver Updater scans your PC for outdated drivers for free. However, you need to register Avast Driver Updater with a paid license to enable it to update your drivers.

How can I restore the previously updated driver?

To restore your installed drivers, click the Restore tab and follow the instructions depending on your preferred restoration method.

How can I schedule regular scanning?

To schedule regular scanning, go to Options ▸ Schedule. To set up a schedule, tick the Automatically check for driver updates. Under the Schedule task: option, select if the scan will run Daily or Weekly and specify the frequency and time of scanning.

How can I uninstall Avast Driver Updater?

Follow these steps to uninstall Avast Driver Updater:

  1. Log into Windows as an administrator and ensure no other programs are running.
  2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  3. Right-click Avast Driver Updater, then select Uninstall from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Yes, then OK to confirm the uninstallation.
