Manage data removal requests

The Personal Info Remover tool allows you to prevent data brokers from storing and selling your personal information online. You just need to fill out our removal request form once, then Avast does the hard work by contacting each data broker individually to ensure your personal information is removed from their databases.

Refer to the instructions in this section to perform the actions below:

Send your first data removal requests

Before Avast BreachGuard can start contacting data brokers, you need to complete our removal request form. You are prompted to fill out this form and send your first data removal requests during initial application setup. If you skipped this step during setup, the Personal Info Remover tile on the Avast BreachGuard dashboard shows the status Incomplete.

To complete the removal request form and send your first data removal requests:

  1. Open Avast BreachGuard and click Personal Info Remover.
  2. Click Send Requests.
  3. In the removal request form, fill out all required fields and click Send Request.
  4. Wait while Avast BreachGuard sends data removal requests to all identified data brokers. This process may take up to 20 minutes, but you can click Continue to close the progress window and use your device as normal while Avast processes your data removal requests.
  5. If all data removal requests are sent successfully, click Continue to return to the Avast BreachGuard dashboard.

Your data removal requests are now sent.

If Avast is unable to send some of your data removal requests, refer to this article for instructions to manage unsuccessful data removal requests.

Send subsequent data removal requests

If you have already completed your removal request form and sent your first data removal requests, you do not need to take any further action until Avast identifies new data brokers. When new data brokers are identified, the Personal Info Remover tile on the Avast BreachGuard dashboard shows the status new data collectors.

To send the new data removal requests, click Personal Info RemoverSend Requests.

Manage unsuccessful data removal requests

If Avast is unable to send some of your data removal requests, we recommend waiting at least one day before trying to resend the affected requests. You can optionally set a reminder notification, which appears at a time that you specify, and prompts you to resend the request(s).

To set a reminder notification:

  1. Click Set Reminder on the results screen after using Personal Info Remover. If you exited the results screen, click Personal Info Remover on the Avast BreachGuard dashboard and select Set Reminder.
  2. Use the drop-down menu to specify when you will receive the reminder notification. If you tick the box next to Automatically remind me about requests that weren't successful, Avast BreachGuard saves your reminder notification settings and applies them to all future unsuccessful removal requests.
  3. Click Save.

Your reminder notification is saved and will appear as specified. You can alternatively try to resend the unsuccessful data removal requests at any time by following the steps below:

  1. Open Avast BreachGuard and click Personal Info Remover.
  2. Select Resend Requests, ... or click the icon (three dots) next to Set Reminder and select Try again now.

Avast BreachGuard tries again to send the unsuccessful data removal requests.

If certain data removal requests repeatedly fail to send, contact Avast Support so we can further investigate the issue.
