Installing the Avast AntiTrack Premium extension on your internet browser

To enable all features in Avast AntiTrack Premium, you need to install an additional extension on your web browser(s). The first time you launch Avast AntiTrack, the application automatically checks for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers, then prompts you to install the extension. If you skip this step, or need to install the extension later, follow the steps in this article.

The Avast AntiTrack browser extension is automatically installed and enabled on Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, and Opera browsers.

Install the extension

  1. Open Avast AntiTrack and select Browser protection.
  2. Next to Chrome, click the red (Not protected) slider. Your Google Chrome browser launches automatically.
  3. Click the Add to Chrome button in your Google Chrome browser.
  4. Click Add extension in the dialog that appears.
  5. Return to Avast AntiTrack, and click Done. The Avast AntiTrack browser extension is now installed on your Google Chrome browser.
  1. Open Avast AntiTrack and select Browser protection.
  2. Next to Firefox, click the red (Not protected) slider. Your Mozilla Firefox browser launches automatically.
  3. Click the + Add to Firefox button in your Mozilla Firefox browser.
  4. Click Add in the dialog that appears.
  5. Return to Avast AntiTrack, and click Done. The Avast AntiTrack browser extension is now installed on your Mozilla Firefox browser.

The Avast AntiTrack browser extension is only compatible with the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Internet Explorer
  • Opera

It is not possible to install and enable the Avast AntiTrack browser extension on any other browser.

Manage the extension

  1. Open Avast AntiTrack and select Browser protection.
  2. Review the status for each compatible browser:
    • Browsers that are enabled have a green (Protected) slider.
    • Browsers that are disabled have a red (Not protected) slider.
    • Browsers that are not installed on your PC appear as gray with the message Supported but not installed on your computer.

When a browser extension is disabled, Avast AntiTrack continues to detect tracking attempts on this browser, but is unable to block them. To review all blocked and unblocked tracking attempts:

  1. Select the Anti-tracking tile, then click See full reports.
  2. Under Recent activity, check details about recent tracking attempts. Tracking attempts that Avast AntiTrack was unable to block show in yellow.
To protect your privacy online, we recommend keeping the browser extension enabled for all installed browsers on your PC.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to install the Avast AntiTrack browser extension, refer to the steps below:

  1. Open Google Chrome and click Extensions (the puzzle icon) ▸ More options (three dots) ▸ Remove from Chrome...
  2. Click Remove in the dialog box that appears.
  3. In the notification area of the Windows taskbar, right-click the Avast AntiTrack icon, and click Quit Avast AntiTrack.
  4. Repeat the steps above to install the Avast AntiTrack browser extension.
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox and click MenuAdd-ons.
  2. Ensure Extensions is selected in the left panel. If the Avast AntiTrack Premium extension is present, click More options (three dots) ▸ Remove.
  3. Click Remove in the dialog box that appears.
  4. In the notification area of the Windows taskbar, right-click the Avast AntiTrack icon, and click Quit Avast AntiTrack.
  5. Repeat the steps above to install the Avast AntiTrack browser extension.

In rare cases, Avast AntiTrack may slow down your browser, prevent certain webpages from loading, or prevent email attachments from downloading. If you experience this issue, refer to the following article:
