Repairing Avast Antivirus

If certain program components and features are not working properly in Avast Antivirus, we recommend you repair your installation using the Avast Setup wizard. The repair process resets your software configuration by fixing or replacing program files which may be out of date, corrupted, or missing.

When you repair Avast Antivirus, some customized settings may be preserved, however, other settings may return to their default configurations.

Instructions

  1. Log into Windows as a user with administrator permissions and ensure no other application or antivirus software is running on your PC.
  2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Apps and Features from the menu that appears.
  3. Ensure that Apps & Features is selected in the left panel, then click your version of Avast Antivirus, and select Modify.
  4. Press the Win key and X key simultaneously, then select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  5. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  7. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or click Programs and Features if you are using the large/small icons view.
  8. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  9. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select SettingsControl Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  10. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or double-click Programs and Features if you are using the classic view.
  11. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  12. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select SettingsControl Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  13. Click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the category view, ...or double-click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the classic view.
  14. Select your version of Avast Antivirus by clicking it once, then click Change in the bottom-right corner of the highlighted selection.
  15. If prompted by the User Account Control dialog for permissions, click YesContinue.
  16. When the Avast Setup wizard appears, click Repair.
  17. Wait while setup repairs Avast Antivirus on your PC.
  18. When the repair is complete, click Done.
