Activating Avast SecureLine VPN for Windows

After purchasing Avast SecureLine VPN for Windows, an order confirmation email with your license file attached is sent to the email address your entered in the purchase form. The instructions in this article assume that SecureLine VPN is already installed on your PC.

Refer to the activation instructions in the following sections according to your version of Avast SecureLine VPN.

Activate the SecureLine VPN component of Avast Antivirus

Before you begin, ensure you have the latest version of Avast Antivirus. For more information, refer to the following article:
  1. Open the e-mail containing your license file and open the attached file license.avastvpn. The method of opening the file varies depending on your mail client software. You might need to double-click the attached file, right-click on the file and select Open, or select the option Open attachments.
    If you are unable to open the file directly from your email, you can instead save the file license.avastvpn to your PC and then open it.
  2. Click Yes.
  3. Right-click the Avast system tray icon on your Windows taskbar, and select Subscription information (or Registration information) to ensure that the subscription has been activated, ...or open the Avast user interface from the icon on your desktop and select Settings.
  4. On the Subscription tab, check that your subscription status is active and the validity date is correct.
  1. Open the email containing your license file and save the attached file license.avastvpn to a familiar location on your PC. The method of opening the file varies depending on your mail client software. You might need to right-click on the file and select Save as or select the option Download attachments.
  2. Right-click the Avast system tray icon on your Windows taskbar, and select Subscription information (or Registration information), ...or open the Avast user interface from the icon on your desktop and select Settings.
  3. On the Subscription tab, click Insert it here.
  4. Locate the file license.avastvpn where you saved it in step 1, and click Open.
  5. Click Yes to confirm.
  6. On the Subscription screen, ensure that your subscription status is active and the validity date is correct.

Your SecureLine VPN subscription is now active for the remaining duration of the license.

Activate SecureLine VPN standalone

  1. Open the email containing your license file and open the attached file license.avastvpn. The method of opening the file varies depending on your mail client software. You might need to double-click the attached file, right-click on the file and select Open, or select the option Open attachments.
    If you are unable to open the file directly from your email, you can instead save the file license.avastvpn to your PC and then open it.

  2. Open the SecureLine VPN user interface by clicking on the Avast SecureLine VPN icon.
  3. Click Insert it here to insert your license file.
  4. Locate the file license.avastvpn where you saved it in step 1, and click Open.

Your SecureLine VPN subscription is now active. To check if the validity date is correct, click icon and verify the license expiration date on the next screen.
