When you add your email to the Risk Monitor feature, you may notice detections related to websites you do not recognize or remember visiting. In some cases, the websites may no longer exist.

Risk Monitor scans the dark web for leaked credentials that may be associated with your email address. These leaks can originate from data breaches that occurred months or even years ago. Old breaches might still be relevant to you if you still use the password from the old breach for your current accounts.

This article explains how to resolve the detection, or remove the detection if you know it is irrelevant.

Resolve a Risk Monitor detection

If Risk Monitor reports a detection, follow the steps below:

1. Check the password associated with the detection: Confirm that you no longer use the leaked password for your online accounts.
2. Update your passwords if necessary: If you suspect you reused the same password after the breach, update it immediately on all affected accounts.
3. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA): For added security, enable MFA on your most important accounts, such as email, banking, and social media.

By completing the steps above, you can help protect your personal information and reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your accounts.

Remove a Risk Monitor detection

If you do not use the password anymore, the detection may be irrelevant. You can remove the detection by following the steps below:

1. Open Avast BreachGuard and select Risk Monitor.
2. Locate the detection that you want to remove and click Show Details.
3. Select I’ve already changed this password.
