Synchronizing Avast Passwords data across your devices

To make accessing your online accounts easier, synchronize the data stored in Avast Passwords across all of your devices using your Avast Account. Before you begin, ensure Avast Passwords is installed on each of the devices you want to synchronize your Avast Passwords data with.

Synchronize the first device

If Avast Passwords is already configured in Avast Antivirus on your PC, follow these steps to synchronize it:

  1. In the Avast Antivirus user interface, go to SettingsPasswords, click Turn on synchronization, then click OK.
  2. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials, or create a new account by clicking Register.
  3. Type the Master Password for the current device and click OK.

If Avast Passwords is already configured on your Mac, follow these steps to synchronize it:

  1. In the Avast Passwords user interface, click the synchronization bar, select the Sync & Backup tab, then click Create or connect account.
  2. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials, or create a new account by clicking Register.

If Avast Passwords is already configured on your iOS device, follow these steps to synchronize it:

  1. In the Avast Passwords app, go to Settings.
  2. Tap Synchronization & Back-up.
  3. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials.

If Avast Passwords is already configured on your Android device, follow these steps to synchronize it:

  1. In the Avast Passwords app, go to Settings and tap Synchronization & Backup.
  2. Slide the switch next to Enable on this device to the right.
  3. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials.

A confirmation appears. If this device is the first device you want to synchronize, no further actions are required. Your device begins synchronizing your Avast Passwords data immediately.

After the first device is synchronized, you will receive an email confirmation (in the email account registered to your Avast Account) with the subject line Your backup identity. This email contains instructions for restoring a backup of your Avast Passwords. To authorize Avast Passwords synchronization with further devices, you can use the newly synchronized device.

The password for accessing and restoring the backup is the same as the Master Password for the current device (the first synchronized device).

Synchronize subsequent devices

If Avast Passwords is already configured in Avast Antivirus on your PC but you skipped synchronization and authorization, follow these steps:

  1. In the Avast Antivirus user interface, go to SettingsPasswords, click Turn on synchronization, then click OK.
  2. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials.
To synchronize your data with an existing synchronization group, ensure you are logged into the same Avast Account.
  3. Type the Master Password for the current device and click OK. A notification containing a code appears on the current device while a request with the same code appears on your already authorized devices.
  4. To authorize the new device, accept the request on one of your previously authorized devices:
    • Windows: click the confirmation button in the dialog that appears.
    • macOS: click the synchronization bar, select the Sync & Backup tab, then click Approve next to the Pending device.
    • Android: click the notification on the status bar to open Avast Passwords, then click Activate.

  2. Tap Synchronization & Back-up.
  3. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials.
To synchronize your data with an existing synchronization group, ensure you are logged into the same Avast Account.
A notification containing a code appears on the current device while a request with the same code appears on your already authorized devices.

After you authorize the device on one of your already authorized devices, your device begins synchronizing your Avast Passwords data.

Turn off synchronization

You can remove one or more devices from a synchronization group at any time by turning off synchronization.

When you turn off synchronization for one of your devices, all Avast Passwords data, including locally stored passwords, is completely removed from the device.
You can regain access to a synchronization group in the following ways:
  • If the group contains one or more of your other devices, you can add the device again.
  • If the group no longer contains any of your devices, you can restore a backup of the data.
  1. In the Avast Antivirus user interface, go to SettingsPasswords, click Turn off synchronization, then click OK.
  2. Click Yes to confirm.
  1. In the Avast Passwords user interface, click the synchronization bar, select the Sync & Backup tab, then click Remove next to the device you want to unsynchronize.
  2. Click De-authorize to confirm.
  1. In the Avast Passwords app, go to Settings and tap Synchronization & Backup.
  2. Slide the switch next to Enable on this device to the left.
  3. Tap Stop sync to confirm.
  1. In the Avast Passwords app, go to Settings.
  2. Tap Synchronization & Back-up.
  3. Slide the switch in the top-right corner of your screen to the left to disable the option.
  4. Tap Stop sync to confirm.

The device is no longer part of the synchronization group and cannot access any data stored in Avast Passwords.

Self-authorize your device

If you do not have access to any of your previously synchronized devices and are therefore unable to authorize synchronization with a new device, restore a backup of your Avast Passwords data to self-authorize your device. For more information read the following article:
