Using the Avast Uninstall Tool

We recommend using the Avast Uninstall Tool to completely remove Avast Free Antivirus from your Windows device if uninstallation via the Start menu did not work or you see the setup is already running message. The Avast Uninstall Tool deletes all Avast Free Antivirus files from your Windows device while Windows runs in Safe Mode.

We recommend using the Avast Uninstall Tool to completely remove Avast Premium Security from your Windows device if uninstallation via the Start menu did not work or you see the setup is already running message. The Avast Uninstall Tool deletes all Avast Premium Security files from your Windows device while Windows runs in Safe Mode.

If you have a paid Avast Premium Security subscription, uninstalling the application does not automatically cancel your subscription. For information about canceling your subscription, refer to the following article: Canceling an Avast subscription - FAQs.
There are two versions of Avast One, the old and the new. For information about the differences, refer to the following article: new version of Avast One.

  1. Click the button below to download the Avast Uninstall Tool and save it to a familiar location on your Windows device (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder). Download the Avast Uninstall Tool
    For Avast Free Antivirus version 18.8 (Windows XP compatible) download the following file: Avast Uninstall Tool (Windows XP).
    For Avast Antivirus version 18.8 (Windows XP compatible) download the following file: Avast Uninstall Tool (Windows XP).
  2. Right-click the downloaded file avastclear.exe, and select Run as administrator from the context menu.
    If you are unable to authorize installation of the Avast Uninstall Tool, refer to the following article for advice: Managing administrative accounts on your Windows device.
  3. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
  4. On the Reboot to safe mode tile, click Reboot.
  5. Click Restart computer on the pop-up window that appears.
  6. When the Avast Uninstall Tool opens in Windows safe mode, select one of the following options:
    • On the Remove & Reinstall tile, click Reinstall, if you want to remove then reinstall the application.
    • On the Remove only tile, click Remove, if you want to only uninstall the application.
  7. Click Uninstall on the confirmation screen.
  8. Wait while the Avast Uninstall Tool removes all Avast Free Antivirus files from your Windows device.
  9. Wait while the Avast Uninstall Tool removes all Avast Premium Security files from your Windows device.
  10. Wait while the Avast Uninstall Tool removes all Avast One files from your Windows device.
  11. Click Restart computer to restart your Windows device.

  2. Right-click the downloaded file avast_clear.exe, and select Run as administrator from the context menu.

  3. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
  4. On the Reboot to Safe mode tile, click Reboot.
  5. Click Restart Computer on the pop-up window that appears.
  6. When the Avast Uninstall Tool opens in Windows safe mode, select one of the following options:
    • On the Remove & Reinstall tile, click Reinstall, if you want to remove then reinstall the application.
    • On the Remove only tile, click Remove, if you want to only uninstall the application.
  7. Click Uninstall on the confirmation screen.
  8. Wait while the Avast Uninstall Tool removes all Avast One files from your Windows device.
  9. Click Restart computer to restart your Windows device.

Avast Free Antivirus is now uninstalled from your Windows device.

  1. Click the button below to download the Avast Uninstall Tool and save it to a familiar location on your Windows device (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder). Download the Avast Uninstall Tool

  3. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
  4. Optionally, tick the box next to Also delete your browsing data to delete your profile information, such as bookmarks and history. Then click Uninstall ▸ Continue to uninstall to continue.
  5. Wait while the Avast Uninstall Tool removes Avast Secure Browser from your Windows device.

Avast Secure Browser is now uninstalled from your Windows device.
