Avast Threat Labs - Mobile application clean guidelines

Avast Mobile Security protects your mobile device by detecting and blocking malicious threats. To accurately determine whether a software program contains malicious content, we use a set of guidelines that define how we distinguish clean and malicious PUP (potentially unwanted program).

  • Disclosure agreements must inform the user of what information the app accesses, and how it is used and stored.
  • Disclosure agreements must be present in a visible and easily accessible location.
  • The user must be informed of the disclosure and agree to it before the app can access personal information.
  • Information may only be used for the purpose for which the user has given permission.
  • If personal or sensitive information is stored, the app must do so securely.
  • Any user data must remain private unless the user has given informed consent to share the data with a third party.
  • App must present its real vendor or authorized publisher. Products must not provide false or misleading information (for example, title, icon, description, or screenshots).
  • App must not divert users or link to any other site that simulates or impersonates another app or service (for example, a phishing landing page).
  • App must not impersonate or resemble any popular third-party or system-provided apps and services.
  • App must not make changes to the user’s device outside of the app without the user’s informed consent. This includes, but is not limited to, replacing or reordering the default arrangement of apps, widgets, or other settings on the device.
  • App must notify the user prior to applying changes to the device, and the user must be able to reverse the changes easily.
