Synchronizing Avast Passwords data across your devices

To make accessing your online accounts easier, synchronize the data stored in Avast Passwords across all of your devices using your Avast Account. Before you begin, ensure Avast Passwords is installed on each of the devices you want to synchronize your Avast Passwords data with.

Synchronize the first device

If Avast Passwords is already configured in Avast Antivirus on your PC, follow these steps to turn on synchronization:

  1. Open the Avast user interface and select PrivacyPasswords.
  2. Click Settings in the top-right corner of the Passwords screen.
  3. Select Sync & backup from the left-side panel of the Avast Passwords settings screen, then click Turn On.
  4. You will be prompted to create a Master Password if you have not already set one up. Select Continue, then type and re-type a Master Password, tick the acknowledgment box, and click Save Master Password.
  5. Enter your email address and password to log into your Avast Account and click Log In. Alternatively, select Google or Facebook to log in using your existing Google or Facebook account credentials.
  6. The synchronization process automatically starts and your Avast Passwords data is backed up. You can now use this device to authorize Avast Passwords to synchronize subsequent devices.

If Avast Passwords is already configured on your Mac, follow these steps to turn on synchronization:

  1. Double-click the Avast Passwords icon in Applications to open the interface.
  2. Click Set up synchronization and backup at the bottom of the Passwords screen.
  3. Click Turn On.
  4. Type your Avast Account credentials into the relevant text boxes and click Login. If you don't have an account, enter your details and click Create Account. Alternatively, select Continue With Facebook or Continue With Google.
  5. A confirmation appears. Your Mac is synchronized and your Avast Passwords data is automatically backed up. You can now use this device to authorize Avast Passwords to synchronize subsequent devices.

If Avast Passwords is already configured on your Android device, follow these steps to synchronize it:

  1. In the Avast Passwords app, tap the menu icon (three dots) and select Settings.
  2. Tap Synchronization & Back-up.
  3. Log into your Avast Account using your existing credentials.
  4. Enter your Master Password when prompted, then tap Unlock.
  5. A confirmation appears. Tap I understand to complete the synchronization.
  6. Your Android device is synchronized and your Avast Passwords data is automatically backed up. You can now use this device to authorize Avast Passwords to synchronize subsequent devices.

If Avast Passwords is already configured on your iOS device, follow these steps to synchronize it:

  1. In the Avast Passwords app, go to Settings and select Synchronization & Backup.
  2. Tap Turn On.
  3. Click Log In if you already have an Avast Account, or click Create Account to set one up. Alternatively, select Continue With Facebook or Continue With Google.
  4. Your Android device is synchronized and your Avast Passwords data is automatically backed up. You can now use this device to authorize Avast Passwords to synchronize subsequent devices.

After the first device is synchronized, a synchronization group is created and you receive an email confirmation (in the email account registered to your Avast Account) with the subject line Your backup identity. This email contains instructions for restoring a backup of your Avast Passwords data.

The password for accessing and restoring the backup is the same as the Master Password for the first synchronized device.

Turn off synchronization

You can remove one or more devices from a synchronization group at any time by turning off synchronization.

When you turn off synchronization for one of your devices, all Avast Passwords data is completely removed from the device, including locally stored passwords. You can regain access to a synchronization group in the following ways:
  • If the group contains one or more of your other devices, you can add the device again.
  • If the group no longer contains any of your devices, you can restore a backup of the data.
  1. Open the Avast user interface and go to PrivacyPasswords.
  2. Click Settings in the top-right corner of the Passwords screen.
  3. Select Sync & backup from the left-side panel, then click Turn Off On This Device to remove this device from the synchronization group. Alternatively, click Remove next to one of the other synced devices in the list to remove that device from the synchronization group.
  4. Click Turn Off and Delete Data to confirm.
  1. Open Avast Passwords and click Avast Passwords on the menu bar of your Mac screen, then select Preferences....

  3. Click Turn Off and Delete Data to confirm.
  1. In the Avast Passwords app, tap the menu icon (three dots) and select Settings.
  2. Tap Synchronization & Back-up.
  3. To remove this device from the synchronization group, tap the ON slider in the top-right corner of your screen so that it changes to OFF. Alternatively, tap a device from the Active list, then on the next screen tap Stop sync and remove device from vault to remove that device from the synchronization group.
  4. Tap Stop sync or Remove to confirm.
  1. In the Avast Passwords app, go to Settings and select Synchronization & Backup.
