Restoring your Avast Passwords data using a backup

We have stopped the sale of new Avast Passwords subscriptions. Please be aware of the following:
  • You can continue to use the free or the paid version of Avast Passwords if it is already installed on your device.
  • If you have an active Avast Passwords subscription, you can still renew it.
  • If you need to uninstall and then reinstall Avast Passwords, we recommend first contacting Avast Support.

When you synchronize Avast Passwords across your devices, Passwords creates a backup of the data stored within. You can use this backup later to restore the data on a new device if you do not have access to any of your previously synchronized devices.

Restore your Passwords data

If Avast Passwords is not installed on your device, install it and configure it before you proceed. For more details, read the following articles:
  1. Locate and open the email you previously received from Avast Software with the subject Your backup identity and click the Restore link.
    This email was sent to the email account you used to log into your Avast Account to enable synchronization on your first device.
  2. Click Open Avast Antivirus in the dialog that appears.
  3. Click Continue in the Avast window that appears.
  4. Log into your Avast Account, if prompted.
    By proceeding, you are agreeing to Avast's End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy.
  5. Type the Master Password for the original device from your previously synchronized group of devices and click Continue. Your access to your Passwords data is restored.
  6. Click Done to complete the backup restoration process.

    This email was sent to the email account you used to log into your Avast Account to enable synchronization on your first device.
  2. Click Allow in the dialog that appears.
  3. Click Start now in the Restore Backup window that appears.
  4. Log into your Avast Account, if prompted.
    By proceeding, you are agreeing to Avast's End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy.
  5. Type the Master Password for the first device from your previously synchronized group of devices and click Confirm.
  6. Access to your Passwords data is restored. Click Finish to complete the backup restoration process.

  2. Tap Start now on the screen that appears.
  3. Log into your Avast Account, if prompted.

  4. Type the Master Password for the first device from your previously synchronized group of devices and tap Unlock. Your access to your Passwords data is restored.
  5. Tap Open vault.

  2. Tap Open in the dialog that appears.
  3. Type your Master Password for the current device, if prompted.
  4. Tap Start now on the screen that appears.
  5. Log into your Avast Account, if prompted.
    By proceeding, you are agreeing to Avast's End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy.
  6. Type the Master Password for the first device from your previously synchronized group of devices. Your access to your Passwords data is restored.
  7. Tap Open vault.

Your previously synchronized Passwords data appears on the main Avast Passwords screen.
