Exporting Avast Passwords data and importing it into Mozilla Firefox

Avast Passwords is no longer available as a standalone product. Existing subscriptions are still valid and you can continue to use Avast Passwords if it is already installed on your device. If you need to reinstall Avast Passwords, please contact Avast Support.

This article describes how to export your passwords data stored in Avast Passwords and then import it into the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Instructions vary according to your version of Mozilla Firefox. To check which version you are using, open Mozilla Firefox and go to Menu ▸ HelpAbout Firefox.

Refer to the steps in the relevant section below based on your Mozilla Firefox version.

Mozilla Firefox 57.x or higher

There is currently no way to import passwords data directly from Avast Passwords if you are using Mozilla Firefox version 57.x or higher. However, if you also use Google Chrome, you can first import your data from Avast Passwords into Chrome, and then import the data from Chrome to Firefox.
  1. Export your passwords data and import it to Google Chrome as described in the following article:
  2. Open your Mozilla Firefox browser (version 57.x or higher), click the |||\ bookmarks icon in the top-right corner, then select BookmarksShow all bookmarks.
  3. On the Library screen, select Import and BackupImport Data from Another Browser....
  4. On the Import Wizard screen, select Chrome and click Next.
  5. Tick the Save Passwords checkbox only and click Next.
  6. Click Finish to import your passwords to Mozilla Firefox.

Your passwords data has now been exported to Mozilla Firefox.

Mozilla Firefox 56.x or lower

  1. Open Avast Antivirus and select PrivacyPasswords.
  2. If prompted, click Unlock, then enter your Master Password and click Unlock.
  3. Go to SettingsImport / export data. Then click Export next to Export to Firefox.
  4. Select a familiar location to save the avast-passwords-firefox.csv file (for example, your desktop) and click Save.
  5. Open your Mozilla Firefox browser (version 56.x or lower), click the menu icon in the top-right corner and select Add-ons.
  6. Select Extensions from the left panel, then enter Password Exporter into the search field and click the search icon.
  7. In the search results, click Install next to Password Exporter.
  8. Once installed, click the menu icon in the top-right corner and select Options.
  9. Select Privacy & Security (or Security) from the left panel and click Import/Export Passwords.
  10. In the new window, click Import Passwords, then locate the previously saved avast-passwords-firefox.csv file and click Open to import your passwords to Mozilla Firefox.

Your passwords data has now been exported to Mozilla Firefox.
