Using the Avast Uninstall Tool

 

We recommend using the Avast Uninstall Tool to completely remove Avast Free Antivirus from your PC if uninstallation via the Start menu did not work or you see the setup is already running message. The Avast Uninstall Tool deletes all Avast Free Antivirus files from your PC while Windows runs in Safe Mode.

Uninstall via Uninstall Tool

After you complete the steps below, your PC will no longer be protected by Avast Free Antivirus against malware and other threats.
  1. Click the button below to download the Avast Uninstall Tool and save it to a familiar location on your PC (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder). Download the Avast Uninstall Tool
    For old versions of Avast Free Antivirus that are no longer supported, download one of the following files:
  2. Right-click the downloaded file avastclear.exe, and select Run as administrator from the context menu.
    If you are unable to authorize installation of the Avast Uninstall Tool, refer to the following article for advice: Managing administrative accounts on your Windows PC.
  3. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
  4. Click Yes when the Avast Antivirus Clear dialog prompts you to restart Windows in Safe Mode. Then, click Yes again to immediately restart your PC in Safe Mode.
    To manually start Windows in Safe Mode, follow the Microsoft Support article according to your version of Windows:
  5. When Windows restarts in Safe Mode, select the location of the Avast Free Antivirus program files. The default installation location is selected automatically. You only need to make adjustments if you changed the default installation when you installed the app.
  6. Select Avast Free Antivirus in the drop-down menu. Then, click Uninstall.
  7. Wait while the Avast Uninstall Tool removes all Avast Free Antivirus files from your PC.
  8. Click Restart computer to immediately reboot your PC and complete uninstallation.

Avast Free Antivirus is now uninstalled from your PC.

Reinstall Avast Free Antivirus

If you need to reinstall Avast Free Antivirus, refer to the following article for installation instructions:

We recommend using the Avast Uninstall Tool to completely remove Avast Premium Security from your PC if uninstallation via the Start menu did not work or you see the setup is already running message. The Avast Uninstall Tool deletes all Avast Premium Security files from your PC while Windows runs in Safe Mode.

If you have a paid Avast Premium Security subscription, uninstalling the application does not automatically cancel your subscription. For information about canceling your subscription, refer to the following article: Canceling an Avast subscription - FAQs.

  2. Right-click the downloaded file avast_secure_browser_uninstall.exe, and select Run as administrator from the context menu.

  3. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
  4. Optionally, tick the box next to Also delete your browsing data to delete your profile information, such as bookmarks and history. Then click Uninstall to continue.
  5. Wait while the Avast Uninstall Tool removes Avast Secure Browser from your PC.

Avast Secure Browser is now uninstalled from your PC.
