Installing Avast Passwords

Avast Passwords is no longer available as a standalone product. Existing subscriptions are still valid and you can continue to use Avast Passwords if it is already installed on your device. If you need to reinstall the standalone version of Avast Passwords, please contact Avast Support.

Avast Passwords is a password and data manager that allows you to securely store sensitive information in one place and enables you to quickly fill in web forms and access your online accounts.

Avast Passwords is available as a component of Avast Antivirus. This article contains instructions to install Avast Passwords via your chosen version of Avast Antivirus.

This article contains instructions to download and install Avast Passwords. If you already have Avast Security version 13 or lower installed on your Mac and you did not uncheck the download option for Avast Passwords during the Avast Security installation, then Avast Passwords is already installed on your Mac. If you installed Avast Security version 14 or higher, or you do not use Avast Security, you can install Avast Passwords by following the instructions in this article.

Install Avast Passwords

  1. Double-click the Avast Antivirus icon on your Windows desktop to open the user interface.
  2. Go to MenuSettings.
  3. Select GeneralTroubleshooting.
  4. Click Add / Modify Components.
  5. Tick the box next to Passwords (Old), then click Change.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the change.
  7. Click Done.
  1. Ensure no other application or antivirus software is running on your Mac.
  2. Click the button below to download the Avast Passwords setup file, and save it to a familiar location on your Mac (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder).

  3. Double-click the downloaded setup file avast_passwords_installer.pkg.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Click Install.
  6. If prompted, use your Touch ID to grant permission for the installation, or click Use Password..., then enter your Administrator Password and click Install Software.
  7. Wait while setup installs Avast Passwords on your Mac, then click Close.
  8. Click Move to Trash.

Avast Passwords is now installed. If you have a subscription for the paid version of Avast Passwords, refer to the following article to activate your subscription:

Troubleshooting

If you experience any installation issues:

  1. Trying adding Avast Passwords via the Avast Setup Wizard. For instructions, refer to the following article:
  2. Restart your PC, then try to install Avast Passwords again by following the exact steps in this article.

If the issue persists, contact Avast Support.

  1. Ensure your Mac meets the minimum system requirements.
  • Apple macOS 10.15.x (Catalina), Apple macOS 10.14.x (Mojave), Apple macOS 10.13.x (High Sierra), Apple macOS 10.12.x (Sierra), Apple Mac OS X 10.11.x (El Capitan).
  • Intel based Mac with 64-bit processor.
  • 512 MB RAM or above (1 GB RAM or higher preferred).
  • 256 MB minimum hard disk free space.
  • Internet connection to download and activate the application.
  • Optimally standard screen resolution not less than 1024 x 768 pixels.
  1. Restart your Mac, then try to install Avast Passwords again by following the exact steps in this article.
