Installing the Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension on Windows and Mac

The Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension is an extra installable component which allows you to conveniently control Avast SecureLine VPN behavior directly via your web browser. This article contains instructions to install and use the Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension.

The Avast SecureLine VPN browser extenstion can only be used with Avast SecureLine VPN for Windows version 5.4 and higher, or Avast SecureLine VPN for Mac version 3.7.2 and higher.

Install and activate Avast SecureLine VPN

It is not possible to use the Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension unless Avast SecureLine VPN is first installed and activated on your PC or Mac:

Install the Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension

  1. Double-click the Avast SecureLine VPN icon on your desktop to open the application.
  2. Go to Menu (three lines) ▸ Settings.
  3. Select Browser Integration in the left panel and click Add Extension next to your preferred web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Avast Secure Browser).
If Avast Secure Browser is not already installed on your PC, you can click Free Download to download it. Otherwise, only web browsers that are already installed on your PC appear.

You are directed to either chrome web store or Firefox Add-ons. Follow the relevant directions below:

  • From the chrome web store:
    1. Click Add to Chrome, then click Add extension.
  • From Firefox Add-ons:
    1. Click + Add to Firefox.
    2. Click Add and then Okay, Got It in the dialogs that appear.

The Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension is now installed and accessible in your chosen web browser via the Avast SecureLine VPN icon to the right of your address bar.

  1. Click the Avast SecureLine VPN icon in the menu bar and select Open Avast SecureLine VPN to open the application.
  2. Select Preferences in the right panel.
  3. Select Browser Integration in the left panel and click Add Extension next to your preferred web browser (Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox).

The Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension is now installed and accessible in your chosen web browser via the Avast SecureLine VPN icon to the right of your address bar.

Start using the Avast SecureLine VPN browser extension

  1. Click the Avast SecureLine VPN icon to the right of your address bar to open the extension.
  2. Click the red (OFF) slider so that it changes green (ON) to connect to SecureLine VPN.

After enabling Avast SecureLine VPN, you are connected by default to your optimal location (this is usually the server that is geographically closest to your real location). To bypass certain geolocation restrictions and access your favorite content while traveling, you may need to connect to a different location:

  1. Click Change Location.
  2. Select your preferred country or city.

Further options

Click Menu (three lines) in the top-left corner of the extension to access the following additional options:

  1. WebRTC Blocker: WebRTC is a feature applied by Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox that can sometimes cause your real IP address to become visible, even when you are using a VPN or proxy. By enabling WebRTC Blocker, you can disable WebRTC in the browser where the Avast SecureLine VPN extension is installed to ensure your privacy remains protected.

  3. Open SecureLine VPN settings: Opens the Settings screen in the main Avast SecureLine VPN user interface.
