Preparing your Windows device for installation of Avast software

Follow the steps in this article to avoid the most common installation issues when installing an Avast application on your Windows PC, and to get optimum performance from your new Avast application.

Refer to the relevant section below according to your Avast product:

Avast One

The steps below apply to the New Avast One.

  1. Check that your PC meets the system requirements below:
  • Windows 11; Windows 11 with ARM64 processors except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 Service Pack 1 with Convenience Rollup Update or later, any Edition (32 or 64-bit)

    Certain features are unavailable on ARM devices: Avast Driver Updater and Avast AntiTrack standalone applications are not supported as well as Avast Antivirus features Boot Time Scan and Rescue Disk.

  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions)
  • 4 GB RAM or above
  • 3 GB free space on the hard disk
  • Internet connection to download, activate, and maintain application updates and antivirus database
  • Optimally standard screen resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels

Avast Antivirus

The steps below apply to Avast Premium Security and Avast Free Antivirus.

  1. Check that your PC meets the system requirements below:
  • Windows 11; Windows 11 with ARM64 processors except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 Service Pack 1 with Convenience Rollup Update or later, any Edition (32 or 64-bit)

    Boot Time Scan and Rescue Disk features are unavailable on Windows 11 on ARM.

  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions)
  • 4 GB RAM or above
  • 3 GB free space on the hard disk
  • Internet connection to download, activate, and maintain application updates and antivirus database

  • Avast AntiTrack browser extension is compatible with Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox browsers
  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions)
  • 1 GHz processor or above
  • Recommended 2 GB RAM or above (minimum of 512 MB RAM)
  • 300 MB free space on the hard disk
  • Internet connection to download, activate, and use the service
