Avast SecureLine VPN for Android - Getting Started

Avast SecureLine VPN enables you to connect to the internet via secure Avast VPN servers, which protects your connection and ensures your privacy.

This article assumes that the latest version of Avast SecureLine VPN is installed and activated on your Android device. For detailed installation and activation instructions, refer to the following articles:

Connect to the VPN

Avast SecureLine VPN can be used any time you want to connect to the internet with extra security and privacy, and is especially recommended when you are connected to a public or unsecured wireless network.

To connect to Avast SecureLine VPN:

  1. On the Home screen of your device, tap the Avast SecureLine icon to open the app.
  2. Tap Connect.
  3. If prompted, tap Ok to give Avast SecureLine VPN permission to set up a VPN connection.
  4. If prompted, you can optionally tap Activate Auto Connect to allow Avast SecureLine VPN to enable automatically. Alternatively tap the X icon in the top-left corner to return to the main app screen.
You can manage Auto Connect behavior at any time via the app settings. For detailed instructions on using Auto Connect, refer to the following article:

You are now connected to the Avast SecureLine VPN default server. You can change the default VPN server location if needed.

Connect to a different location

Avast SecureLine VPN has servers in several locations, which means you can bypass geolocation restrictions as well as access your favorite content while traveling. By default, you connect to the Optimal Location.

To connect to a different location:

  1. Tap Optimal Location at the bottom of the main app screen.
  2. Tap your preferred country and city to change your location.

Your server location is now changed.

Add Trusted networks

Trusted Wi-Fi networks are excluded from your Auto Connect settings. Avast SecureLine VPN does not enable automatically when you are connected to a Trusted network.

To add a trusted network:

  1. Tap Settings (the gear icon) in the top-right corner of the main app screen.
  2. Tap Trusted networks, then if prompted, tap Allow to give Location permission.
  3. If prompted, select Allow only while using the app to give the app access to your device's location.
  4. Tap the + plus icon next to a Wi-Fi network to add it to your Trusted networks.

Exclude apps from VPN connection

Split Tunneling ensures that certain apps never connect to the internet via Avast VPN servers, even when Avast SecureLine VPN is enabled. For example, you can specify that your email app is excluded from VPN connection, allowing you to send and receive emails from your real location, but still access online content without restrictions when you use your preferred web browser app.

To exclude apps:

  1. Tap Settings (the gear icon) in the top-right corner of the main app screen.
  2. Tap Split Tunneling, then tap the white (Off) slider so that it changes to green (On).
  3. All apps are ticked by default. Untick any apps that you want to exclude from Avast SecureLine VPN connection.

When you use an excluded app, your connection is not encrypted and your real location is visible.
