Accessing the Avast Antivirus Setup wizard via the Windows Control Panel

The Avast Setup wizard enables you to update, modify, repair, or uninstall Avast Antivirus. Follow the steps in this article to access this wizard via your Windows Control Panel.

Access the Avast Setup wizard

Select your version of Windows and follow the steps to access the Avast Setup wizard from your Windows Control Panel:

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  2. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu. The Avast Setup wizard opens.
  3. Press the Win key and X key simultaneously, then select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  4. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu. The Avast Setup wizard opens.
  5. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  6. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or click Programs and Features if you are using the large/small icons view.
  7. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu. The Avast Setup wizard opens.
  8. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select Settings and then click Control Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  9. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or double-click Programs and Features if you are using the classic view.
  10. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu. The Avast Setup wizard opens.
  11. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select Settings and then click Control Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  12. Click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the category view, ...or double-click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the classic view.
  13. Select your version of Avast Antivirus by clicking it once, then click Change in the bottom-right corner of the highlighted selection. The Avast Setup wizard opens.
  14. Click the action you require:
    • Update: checks for and applies any updates to your program version and virus definitions.
    • Repair: checks all Avast program data and reloads any that is damaged or missing.
    • Modify: enables you to add or remove program components.
    • Uninstall: uninstalls the program.
    If you are using a trial version of a paid Avast Antivirus product or your paid subscription is due to expire soon, the option Switch Back to Avast Free Antivirus is also available. Clicking this option converts a paid version of Avast Antivirus to Avast Free Antivirus.
