Anti-Theft is a feature included in Avast Mobile Security designed to protect your private mobile data and help you recover your phone in case of loss or theft. You can configure Anti-Theft to automatically perform certain actions, for example, to sound an alarm if an untrusted SIM card is detected. Additionally, you can control any lost or stolen device remotely via SMS commands or your Avast Account which allows you to track the device and lock or erase private data.
How can I access Anti-Theft?
The newest version of Anti-Theft is included in Avast Mobile Security. To start using this feature:
- Download and install Avast Mobile Security from Google Play Store. For more information about installation refer to the following article:
- To get access to the addtitional options offered by Anti-Theft in Avast Mobile Security, upgrade your app to the paid Pro version by following the steps in this article:
- On the main screen of Avast Mobile Security Pro, click the menu icon in the top-left corner, and select Anti-Theft to open this feature.
Why Anti-Theft is now a paid feature in Avast Mobile Security Pro?
We decided to include Anti-Theft as a feature to Avast Mobile Security Pro to provide you with all the most important features for mobile protection in one app. This step also allows us to support ongoing development of all features that are offered in Avast Mobile Security.
I have a standalone version of Anti-Theft. Do I need to uninstall it?
If you have already downloaded Anti-Theft from Google Play Store and installed it as a standalone app, you can keep using it. All features are still available for you free of charge. However, this app does not receive new updates and is not be available to download from Google Play Store anymore. We encourage you to start using new Anti-Theft feature in near feature.
What additional Anti-Theft options are included in Avast Mobile Security Pro?
Anti-Theft included in Avast Mobile Security Pro offers three additional options:
- Capturing a photo of the thief when incorrect PIN is entered.
- Locking your device when SIM card is changed.
- Secretly recording the phone's surroundings at any time.
You need to upgrade your Avast Mobile Security to get access to these options.
Features and Settings
What is Cloud storage?
When you mark your device as LOST, Anti-Theft automatically takes a photo of the possible thief and records an audio file to help you locate your device. If you select Google Drive in the Cloud storage section, the photo and recorded audio file are sent to your Google Drive. By default these files are sent only to your Avast Account. Please note that the option to send files to Google Drive can also be enabled in Avast Account. However, this option only applies to older versions of Anti-Theft which do not include the Cloud storage feature within the app. To set up the connection to Google Drive in older Anti-Theft 4.x, go to Anti-Theft ▸ Cloud storage.
What is the Use SMS to report status feature?
When the Use SMS to report status feature is enabled, Anti-Theft is able to send a confirmation message if a command is sent successfully. It also allows Anti-Theft to send the location information to a device from which you originally sent the LOCATE command. Enable this option in Anti-Theft ▸ Use SMS to report status.
What is PIN security?
PIN security allows you to use additional protection by marking your device as LOST if your Avast PIN is inserted eight times incorrectly. PIN security can be enabled manually in Anti-Theft ▸ PIN security.
What is the Lock on SIM change option?
If you activate SIM security, the device locks automatically when it detects a SIM card change. This is especially useful if a potential thief attempts to insert another SIM card into your device. SIM security can be enabled manually in Anti-Theft ▸ Lock on SIM change.
What is the 'Show message on lock screen' section?
In this section you can prepare a message (for example, a warning or contact data) to appear on the lock screen if the device is lost or stolen. Go to Anti-Theft ▸ Show message on lock screen.
What is the 'Connection to Avast Account' section?
During the activation process, Anti-Theft asks you to log in to your Avast Account to set up Web Control which allows you to control your device from any device via the web browser. If you skipped this option during the configuration process or want to change the account, go to Anti-Theft ▸ Connection to Avast Account and log in.
What is the 'Change PIN' section?
Here you can change the PIN code that you set during the activation process. To change it you need your current PIN. Go to Anti-Theft ▸ Change PIN.
What is the SMS Remote Control feature?
This feature contains the SMS commands that allow you to remotely control your device. You can send the command directly from your phone, you just need to know a target phone number and its associated PIN. Go to Anti-Theft ▸ SMS Remote Control.
What is Command history?
In this section, you can review the history of commands sent from the device. Go to Anti-Theft ▸ Command history.
What is the 'When device is marked as LOST' section?
In this section you can define the behavior of the app in case of theft. You can specify if you want to:
- Lock device: the device locks.
- Sound siren: siren activates automatically.
These settings are applied only if you mark your device as lost. You can mark your device as lost via SMS commands or your Avast Account. All options are enabled by default to provide maximum protection in case of loss or theft. If you want to disable any of the settings, go to Anti-Theft ▸ In case of theft.
How do I remotely control my lost or stolen device with Anti-Theft?

Can I restore a forgotten Avast PIN?
For security reasons Anti-Theft does not send your Avast PIN to our servers, and there is no master key. However, there are two possible ways to restore a PIN - via Google Account and Avast Account.
