Upgrading from Avast Free Antivirus to a trial version of Avast Internet Security

While using Avast Free Antivirus, you could be offered a free trial of Avast Internet Security. If you accept the offer, your program will update to the latest version of Avast Internet Security for a free trial period. You can always switch back to Avast Free Antivirus, or purchase and activate a license to continue using a paid version of Avast Antivirus.

Upgrade to the trial version of Avast Internet Security

  1. When Avast Free Antivirus displays a pop-up message offering you a free trial version of Avast Internet Security, click Start Free Trial to accept the offer.
  2. The free trial will appear in the cart. Click Agree & Continue, then follow the on-screen instructions and enter your customer information and payment details.
    Your payment details are requested so that we can continue to provide you with Avast Internet Security protection after the free trial period has ended. You will receive a notification email before the end of the free trial period to remind you that the automatic renewal payment is coming up.   3. Your free trial of Avast Internet Security is now automatically activated. Click Restart Now to complete the upgrade.
  4. To review your license details, right-click the Avast icon in your system tray and select Subscription information.
  5. On the My licenses screen, check the expiration date of your free trial under Licenses on this PC.
You can manually upgrade to a trial version of Avast Internet Security upon activation of Avast Free Antivirus. For instructions, refer to the following article:

Switch back to Avast Free Antivirus

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Apps and Features from the menu that appears.
  2. Ensure that Apps & Features is selected in the left panel, then click Avast Internet Security, and select Modify.
  3. Press the Win key and X key simultaneously, then select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  4. Right-click Avast Internet Security, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  6. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or click Programs and Features if you are using the large/small icons view.
  7. Right-click Avast Internet Security, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  8. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select SettingsControl Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  9. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or double-click Programs and Features if you are using the classic view.
  10. Right-click Avast Internet Security, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  11. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel, ...or select SettingsControl Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
  12. Click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the category view, ...or double-click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the classic view.
  13. Select Avast Internet Security by clicking it once, then click Change in the bottom-right corner of the highlighted selection.
  14. If prompted by the User Account Control dialog for permissions, click YesContinue.
  15. When the Avast Setup wizard appears, click Switch Back to Avast Free Antivirus.
  16. Wait while setup updates Avast Antivirus on your PC.
  17. Click Restart computer to complete the switch back process.
Switching back to Avast Free Antivirus does not cancel the automatic renewal payment, so you need to cancel it manually. For instructions, refer to the following article:
