Installing Avast Online Security & Privacy

 

Avast Online Security & Privacy is a free browser extension that lets you control who has access to your private data, and warns you about malicious websites and phishing scams.

Install the extension

You can install Avast Online Security & Privacy directly via your web browser.

  1. In Google Chrome, click the link below to open the Avast Online Security & Privacy product page in the chrome web store:
  2. Click Add to Chrome next to Avast Online Security & Privacy.
  3. Click Add extension.
  4. After the extension installs, you can ensure that it appears on your extensions bar by clicking the Extensions icon, and selecting the Pin icon next to Avast Online Security & Privacy.

Avast Online Security & Privacy is now installed in Google Chrome. To open the extension, click the Avast Online Security & Privacy icon to the right of your address bar.

  1. In Microsoft Edge, click the link below to open the Avast Online Security & Privacy product page in Edge Add-ons:
  2. Click Get next to Avast Online Security & Privacy.
  3. Click Add extension.

Avast Online Security & Privacy is now installed in Microsoft Edge. To open the extension, click the Avast Online Security & Privacy icon to the right of your address bar.

  1. In Opera, click the link below to open the Avast Online Security & Privacy product page in Opera addons:
  2. Click Add to Opera next to Avast Online Security & Privacy.

Avast Online Security & Privacy is now installed in Opera. To open the extension, click the Avast Online Security & Privacy icon to the right of your address bar.

Avast Online Security & Privacy is available for install in Avast Secure Browser via the chrome web store. Follow the steps below:

  1. In Avast Secure Browser, click the link below to open the Avast Online Security & Privacy product page in the chrome web store:
  2. Click Add extension next to Avast Online Security & Privacy.
  3. Click Add extension.
  4. After the extension installs, you can ensure that it appears on your extensions bar by clicking the Extensions icon, and selecting the Pin icon next to Avast Online Security & Privacy.

Avast Online Security & Privacy is now installed in Avast Secure Browser. To open the extension, click the Avast Online Security & Privacy icon to the right of your address bar.

Set up the extension

The steps below apply only if you have just installed Avast Online Security & Privacy, which is the new version of the browser extension.

If your version of the browser extension does not match the screens below, refer to the Troubleshooting section in this article.
  1. Click the Avast Online Security & Privacy icon to the right of your address bar to open the extension.
  2. Click Set up to configure the extension to your preferences. Alternatively, click Use default settings.
  3. Click Turn on to immediately stop websites from using tracking systems to collect data relating to your online behavior.   4. Click Opt out to immediately send opt-out requests to the listed online advertisers. After receiving your opt-out requests, the online advertisers are legally obligated to stop collecting and selling your personal information.   5. Click Turn on to automatically accept necessary cookies on websites you visit.
  6. Click Start guide to immediately open a privacy guide that walks you through the process of hiding your online tracks from Google.

Avast Online Security & Privacy is now set up and is actively protecting your privacy.

Troubleshooting

We have developed a completely new version of the Avast Online Security browser extension, which is now called Avast Online Security & Privacy.

To check which version of the browser extension is installed in your browser, review the information below:

  • The new version (version 21.0.68 and later): is called Avast Online Security & Privacy and uses an orange Avast icon with the main screen shown below:
  • The classic version (version 21.0.67 and earlier): is called Avast Online Security and uses a colored Shield icon with the main screen shown below:
Because update releases for browser extensions are managed by individual web browsers, we cannot guarantee that the new version will immediately be available to install for all users.

If you still have the classic version of the browser extension, we recommend that you regularly check for available updates to ensure you can start using the new version as soon as possible.
