Avast Online Security & Privacy is a free browser extension that lets you control who has access to your private data, and warns you about malicious websites and phishing scams.
Install the extension
You can install Avast Online Security & Privacy directly via your web browser.
Set up the extension
If your version of the browser extension does not match the screens below, refer to the Troubleshooting section in this article.
- Click the Avast Online Security & Privacy icon to the right of your address bar to open the extension.
- Click Set up to configure the extension to your preferences. Alternatively, click Use default settings.
- Click Turn on to immediately stop websites from using tracking systems to collect data relating to your online behavior. - Click Opt out to immediately send opt-out requests to the listed online advertisers. After receiving your opt-out requests, the online advertisers are legally obligated to stop collecting and selling your personal information. - Click Turn on to automatically accept necessary cookies on websites you visit.
- Click Start guide to immediately open a privacy guide that walks you through the process of hiding your online tracks from Google.
Avast Online Security & Privacy is now set up and is actively protecting your privacy.
Troubleshooting
We have developed a completely new version of the Avast Online Security browser extension, which is now called Avast Online Security & Privacy.
To check which version of the browser extension is installed in your browser, review the information below:
- The new version (version 21.0.68 and later): is called Avast Online Security & Privacy and uses an orange Avast icon with the main screen shown below:
- The classic version (version 21.0.67 and earlier): is called Avast Online Security and uses a colored Shield icon with the main screen shown below:
If you still have the classic version of the browser extension, we recommend that you regularly check for available updates to ensure you can start using the new version as soon as possible.
