Troubleshooting Avast Omni setup issues

Once your Avast Omni hub arrives, you need to connect it to your network router, then configure it using the Avast Omni Family Guardian app on a Windows device. On-screen instructions in the Avast Omni Family Guardian app guide you through this process. When Avast Omni is correctly configured, the light on the Avast Omni hub glows solid white. To troubleshoot setup issues, follow the steps in this article in sequence.

The steps in this article assume the Avast Omni Family Guardian app is already installed on your main device and you are now connecting your Avast Omni hub to your network router. For detailed app installation instructions, refer to the following article:

Check your Avast Omni hub

When you connect your Avast Omni hub to your network router, the hub runs its boot-up sequence. Once boot-up is complete, a flashing blue light indicates that your Avast Omni hub is ready for configuration using the Avast Omni Family Guardian app on a Windows device. If you do not see a flashing blue light after waiting 5 minutes from the time you connected the Avast Omni hub to your network router and electrical outlet, refer to the relevant sections below to check that your Avast Omni hub is connected correctly.

If the Avast Omni hub light is off:

  1. Check that the Avast Omni hub is plugged into an electrical outlet using the power adapter provided.
  2. Check that the electrical outlet is working by plugging in another electrical device, such as a lamp, or try plugging the Avast Omni hub into another electrical outlet.
  3. Restart your Avast Omni hub by unplugging both ends of the power adapter between your Avast Omni hub and the electrical outlet, then plugging them in again.

If the Avast Omni hub light is red:

  1. Check that the Avast Omni hub is connected to an available LAN port on your network router using the network (ethernet) cable provided in the Avast Omni box, or try plugging it into another LAN port on your network router.
Ensure you do not use a WAN / Internet port, which is used for your connection to the internet. The WAN / Internet port on your router is often separated from the other LAN ports and distinguishable by color.
  2. Check that the network router connected to your Avast Omni hub is turned on.
  3. Use another device that is connected to the same network router to check that your internet connection is working.
  4. Restart your Avast Omni hub by unplugging both ends of the power adapter between your Avast Omni hub and the electrical outlet, then plugging them in again.

If, after following the steps above, your Avast Omni hub light is still off or red, contact Avast Support. If the Avast Omni hub displays a flashing blue light, but you cannot complete the setup in the Avast Omni Family Guardian app, follow the steps below to check your Windows device.

Check your Windows device

If the Avast Omni hub displays a flashing blue light, but the Avast Omni Family Guardian app on your Windows device cannot detect the Avast Omni hub, check the following:

  1. Network connection:
    • Wi-Fi: Ensure your Wi-Fi is enabled and your Windows device is connected to the same network router as the Avast Omni hub.
    • Network (ethernet) cable: Ensure the network (ethernet) cable is plugged into the same network router as the Avast Omni hub.
  2. Restart your Windows device.
  3. Check that you are not using a VPN or other application that might filter your internet connectivity, such as a third-party firewall or parental control software.
  4. Close all other programs running on your Windows device.
  5. Close the Avast Omni Family Guardian app, then reopen it.
  6. Try using another Windows device to run the Avast Omni setup.
