Troubleshooting the "UI Failed to load" error message in Avast Antivirus

Sometimes Avast Antivirus reports that the UI Failed to load, which stops the whole program from running. This issue may be the result of an incorrect Windows services configuration.

If clicking Restart Service on the error message does not help, then you need to set the relevant Windows services to run automatically by following the steps in this article.

Instructions

Before you begin, make sure you are logged in to Windows as a user with administrator permissions.
  1. Simultaneously press the Win and R keys on your keyboard to run the Windows Services console, then type services.msc and click OK.
  2. In the Services console, locate and right-click Remote Desktop Services and select Properties.
  3. In the General tab, click the drop-down menu next to Startup type and select Automatic. Then click Apply to confirm the changes.
    If the service stops running, click Start in the Service status section.
  4. Restart your PC and try to open Avast Antivirus again.

  5. In the General tab, click the drop-down menu next to Startup type and select Automatic. Then click Apply to the confirm changes.
    If the service stops running, click Start in the Service status section.
  6. Restart your PC and try to open Avast Antivirus again.
  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run.
  2. Type services.msc and click OK.
  3. In the Services console, locate and right-click Terminal server (or Services Terminal Server) and select Properties.
  4. In the General tab, click the drop-down menu next to Startup type and select Automatic. Then click Apply to confirm the changes.
  5. If the service stops running, click Start in the Service status section.
  6. In the Services console, locate and right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Services and select Properties.
  7. In the General tab, click the drop-down menu next to Startup type and select Automatic. Then click Apply to confirm the changes.
    If the service stops running, click Start in the Service status section.
  8. Restart your PC and try to open Avast Antivirus again.

The Avast Antivirus user interface should load now.
