Data Broker Scan and Removal
What are data brokers?
Data brokers are companies that collect, combine, and sell personal information from sources such as public records and online activity. This can lead to unwanted contact or put your identity at risk.
How do I perform a data broker scan?
To start a scan, you need to enter the required details shown in the app. You can also add optional information, such as your address, ZIP code, email address, and phone number, to improve scan accuracy. For detailed instructions, refer to the following article: Avast One Privacy Control - Getting Started.
What happens after the scan is complete?
When the scan is complete, the results appear on the dashboard. What happens next depends on your version of Avast Privacy Control:
- Free version: You are guided through manual removal requests.
- Premium version: Avast sends removal requests automatically where possible.
Why do some removal requests require my review?
Some data brokers require additional verification that Avast cannot complete automatically. In these cases, the request is flagged for your review and instructions are provided in the app.
What if Data Broker Scan finds a profile that is not mine?
If a profile that matches your details is found but is not yours, you can exclude it from future scan results and removal requests. On the Data brokers scanned dashboard, click the down arrow next to the relevant profile to view more details. Click This is not me ▸ Exclude profile.
••• Menu ▸ Settings. In the left panel, select Privacy Control ▸ Data Broker Removal. Scroll down to Excluded profiles and click Restore next to the relevant profile. How often are scans and removal requests repeated?
Scans and removal requests are repeated automatically every 90 days.
Can I add or edit the information I use to search data broker sites?
Yes. You can edit your information or add additional details at any time. To do so, open Avast One, then go to ••• Menu ▸ Settings. In the left panel, select Privacy Control ▸ Data Broker Removal. Click Add or edit to update your current details or add additional ones.
Can Avast remove my information from every website?
No. Avast submits removal requests where possible, but the ability to request deletion depends on whether your personal information is found on monitored data broker websites and whether the broker allows automated handling.
