How to restore a false positive file from the Virus Chest?

Answer

To restore a false positive file from the Virus Chest, after installing the latest virus database update (VPS), please follow these steps:

  1. First, right-click on the avast! blue ball icon in the system tray, select 'Updating' from the menu and then 'iAVS Update' to launch a virus database update:


  2. After the update finishes, the following message will appear confirming the update has been completed:


  3. Next, right-click on the avast! blue ball icon in the system tray, and select 'Start avast! Antivirus' from the menu:


  4. Click the 'Menu' button and select the option 'Virus Chest':


  5. Right-click on the file you need to restore from the Virus Chest and select 'Scan' from the context menu:


  6. An information dialog window should appear confirming the scan has been completed successfully:


  7. Right-click on the file you need to restore from the Virus Chest and select 'Restore' from the context menu:


  8. Another information dialog window should appear confirming the file has been successfully restored:


  9. If the file restore fails, try to use the 'Extract' feature instead - first check and remember the original location of the desired file:


  10. Then right-click on the file you need to extract from the Virus Chest and select 'Extract...' from the context menu:


  11. A navigation dialog will appear. Select the original location (identified in step 9.) to where the desired file should be extracted and click 'OK':


  12. The following information dialog window will then appear confirming the successful extraction of the selected file:
